BUSY BUSY BUSY

After everyone had an opportunity to order the bottle cap integers. Students began working with the coordinate plane. As everyone was working, I called on students randomly using the smart seat app to take a quick quiz over ordering integers. Student had to blindly choose 5 rocks from the bag and order them from least to greatest.

ORDERING INTEGERS

Students have been working with number lines to make sure they understand that a negative gets smaller the further away from zero. This can be confusing when the number is large and has a negative sign. I remind them about owing their mom money and they quickly get it. They have also been working with opposites, and absolute value. In this activity I threw it all in.

For this activity I used a lot of bottle caps. Wrote the integer on them with a sharpie marker. I dumped the pile in floor and then had groups come work for 3 minute rotations. I loved the discussions they were having.

POSITIVE PAULA & NEGATIVE NANCY

Positive Paula and Negative Nancy helped students learn understand that integers can represent real world situations.

While working with Paula and Nancy the class made a list of keywords for their notebooks.

Students completed the following worksheet to practice writing integers. Afterward each student created 5 integer statements to be used on tomorrow’s quick assessment.
